Alberta’s AAIP Farm Stream is for entrepreneurs with the financial resources and farm management skills to start a new farm in Alberta or buy an existing one to obtain Canada PR by investment. Candidates must submit their application to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) for review and a planned business plan.
The Alberta Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Economic Development will engage with the AAIP to ensure that the business plan is realistic and viable and fits the needs of Alberta’s agriculture industry. Candidates must meet the following criteria when their application is mailed to the AAIP and when the AAIP assesses their application to be eligible for Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream.
Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream eligibility requirements are as follows:

Applicants must describe their investment plans in a comprehensive business plan and submit it along with their application with the AAIP.
The application process for the Alberta’s Self-Employed Farmer Stream is as follows:
Foreign farmers must first check their eligibility for the AAIP Farmer Stream by reviewing the requirements mentioned above. They must then download the required documents for their application
The AAIP will then assess the foreign farmer’s application. They may request additional information before making their decision.
If the AAIP approves the application, they will send the applicant a Provincial Nomination package via email. This package will include information on how the nominee can apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Nominees must complete their permanent residence application and submit it as quickly as possible. Their nomination is valid for only 6 months, so they must apply before it expires.
Nominees must also gather and submit supporting documents along with their application. This includes a copy of the AAIP nomination, police certificates, and proof of fee payment.
Once the nominee has submitted their application for permanent residence, IRCC will ask them to complete criminal, medical, and security checks. Applicants will then need to wait for IRCC to make their final decision.
