Ottawa, Canada — In the latest round of Express Entry draws, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to eligible candidates seeking Canadian permanent residency. Here are the key highlights:

Express Entry Latest Draw Highlights (April 23, 2024)

  • Rank required to be invited to apply: 2,095 or above
  • Minimum CRS Score: 529
  • Program Specified: General

The Express Entry draws considered candidates from various Express Entry programs, emphasizing their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores. The competitive minimum CRS score reflects the demand for skilled immigrants in Canada.

The April 10 draw witnessed the highest minimum CRS score of the year so far. Candidates with strong profiles were invited to apply for permanent residency.

STEM Occupations Draw

  • Draw Type: Category-Based (STEM Occupations)
  • Minimum CRS Score: 491

In a groundbreaking move, IRCC targeted candidates with expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) occupations. Many ITAs demonstrate Canada’s commitment to attracting skilled professionals in these critical fields.

Category-Based Express Entry

In May 2023, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced category-based selection draws to improve the selection of Express Entry candidates with desired skills and human capital attributes. The department created six categories in 2023, and it was announced earlier this year that these same categories will continue to be used in 2024. The categories are as follows:

  • Healthcare occupations
  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  • Strong French proficiency

Candidates must already have an application in the Express Entry pool to be considered for category-based selection.
