Canada Express Entry Latest Draw January 10, 2024

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has initiated the year by inviting 1,510 candidates to apply in the first Express Entry draw. These candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 546 for a general draw.

This general draw took into account candidates from all Express Entry managed programs. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). No specific occupations or other human capital attributes were targeted.

There were four draws that took place from December 18-21. The all-program draw on December 18 invited 1,325 candidates who had a minimum CRS of 524.

Express Entry Changes in 2024

The Immigration Levels Plan for 2024-2026 indicates that Canada will admit 110,000 new permanent residents through the Express Entry program in 2024.

This is a significant increase from the 82,880 Express Entry candidates the IRCC targeted in 2023. However, the high target for 2024 does not guarantee that all the candidates invited will be admitted within the same year. Some candidates, mainly those invited later in the year, will likely arrive in 2025.

This is due to the IRCC’s service standard of taking six months to issue a final decision on Express Entry applications for permanent residency. In 2023, the IRCC issued more than 100,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to Express Entry candidates.

Category-Based Express Entry

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced category-based selection rounds of invitations for Express Entry candidates. These new rounds aim to target candidates with specific attributes in high demand. The immigration minister believes these attributes will strengthen Canada’s workforce and economy. This approach allows Canada to attract individuals who can contribute significantly to the country’s growth.
