Canada Introduces Innovation Stream: A New Employer-Specific Work Permit

By 6 June 2024No Comments

On April 15, Canada introduced a new 2-year Innovation Stream employer-specific work permit. This new initiative is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have received a job offer in a high-skilled occupation from one of the employers participating in the Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP).

Unlike traditional employer-specific work permits, the Innovation Stream does not require an LMIA. The two-year Innovation Stream work permit expires on March 22, 2026.

High-skilled occupations are those that fall under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) categories 0, 1, 2 or 3. These occupations require a high level of expertise and training, making them critical for the growth and development of the Canadian economy.

Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP)

The Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP) initiative was launched by the Government of Canada to support innovative Canadian firms acting as anchors in their communities. These firms foster entrepreneurship, build networks, create jobs, and act as catalysts for economic development.

Several innovative Canadian businesses are participating in the Global Hypergrowth Project, supercharging their growth. For instance, ADA, an AI Agent for customer service, and Clarius, a provider of High-Definition Ultrasound Imaging, are two companies participating in the GHP. Here are a few more companies participating:

  • AlayaCare
  • CellCarta
  • Clio
  • Duchesnay Pharmaceutical Group (DPG)
  • Lightspeed Commerce
  • Vive Crop Protection
