In order to address the skilled labour shortage, Ontario’s Labour Minister has urged the Prime Minister to increase quota for Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Ontario welcomes approximately 100,000 new Canadians each year, out of which the provincial government brings about 7,000 people through the OINP.
The province is said to be facing shortage of skilled labour in sectors that require special skills such as home care services and truck driving. Thus, the Labour Minister believes that one of the best solutions is to bring in more new immigrants to Ontario in order to fill these jobs and to increase the quota for the OINP.
