Yukon Nominee Program Streams

These are the main streams under the Yukon Nominee Program:

Yukon Critical Impact Worker: This stream caters to employers who wish to hire foreign workers for their Yukon-based business.
Yukon Skilled Worker: For skilled workers with relevant work experience in the NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 jobs.

Yukon Express Entry

Applicants who are qualified for the federal Express Entry pool and wish to live and work in Yukon may apply to the Yukon Express Entry stream. In March 2015, Yukon expanded its current immigration policies to include an Express Entry stream.

YNP Express Entry stream enables the province to nominate applicants already in the Express Entry pool and possesses the required training, experience, language skills, and other qualities to aid in their successful integration into Yukon’s society and labour market.

Successful candidates are offered additional 600 points for their CRS score in the Express Entry profile. The candidates must be eligible for one of the three federal economic immigration programs to apply for the Yukon Nominee Program:

Minimum Requirements

You must fulfill the requirements of one of the three federal Express Entry programs.
You must complete the online Express Entry application
You must have enough settlement funds to support yourself and any accompanying family members in Canada
You must have a valid job offer for permanent, full-time work from an eligible Yukon employer
You must have a genuine intention to live and work in Yukon.

Yukon Critical Impact Worker

The Yukon Nominee Program launched this unique stream for employers who cannot find Canadians to fill specific low-skilled occupational roles and wants to hire foreign workers instead. Qualified foreign nationals with the relevant skill set and background can apply to this program. They will receive a temporary work permit and can come to Canada. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) process their permanent residence application while they work for their Canadian employer.

Employer Requirements

Yukon employers who wish to hire foreign workers under the Yukon Critical Impact Worker program must meet the following requirements:

Be a Canadian permanent resident or citizen
Operate a business in Yukon full-time for a minimum of one year preceding the foreign worker’s application (three years for non-profit organizations)
Possess a valid business license
Demonstrate they made one national recruitment effort and two local recruitment efforts for the job vacancy they are attempting to fill
Provide free health insurance that matches the type of coverage the nominee would receive under the Health Care Insurance Plan Act
Must pay for the nominee’s air travel cost
Must ensure they treat the nominee according to the Canadian Human Rights Act and Yukon Human Rights Act
Must participate in the nominee’s immigration screening if they are already present in Yukon

Yukon Skilled Worker Program

Yukon Nominee Program offers the Skilled Worker stream that targets skilled foreign workers similar to the Yukon Critical Impact Worker program. It is also designed for employers who wish to hire foreign workers to fill a job vacancy they could not find Canadians for. The employer requirements for this program are identical to the Critical Impact Worker program, as mentioned above.

Minimum Requirements

Possess 12 months of work experience in a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 job similar to the one they will perform in Yukon
Possess a high school diploma
Score a language proficiency score of CLB 6 or higher if their work experience is in a NOC TEER 0 or 1 jobs
This requirement is CLB 5 if their work experience is in a NOC TEER 2 and 3 jobs

Yukon Community Program

The Yukon Community Program is a unique program designed under Yukon Nominee Program. This pilot program is scheduled to run between January 2020 and June 2023. It helps employers in specific Yukon communities address seasonal labour shortages by hiring foreign workers. Such workers can eventually apply for permanent residence.

Yukon Community Program Employer Requirements

Employers who wish to hire foreign workers through the Yukon Community Pilot Program must meet the following requirements:

Own a business that has been fully operational for a least 12 months
Be a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident
The business must be in good standing with Yukon’s Employment Standards Branch, Corporate Affairs Branch, and Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board
Be willing to host or mentor the nominee and provide them with housing.
Be willing to arrange all the nominee’s initial settlement activities in Yukon.

To apply for Yukon Community Program, foreign workers must meet the exact eligibility requirements as the Yukon Critical Worker and the Yukon Skilled Worker.

Yukon Business Nominee Program

The Yukon Business Nominee program is for individuals with foreign business ownership experience who wish to set up, purchase, and operate a business in Yukon. Successful candidates will be issued a two-year work permit to come to Yukon and operate their businesses. They can then apply for permanent residence at the end of these two years.

Minimum Requirements

Prospective applicants who wish to apply under the Yukon Business Nominee program must meet the following requirements:

Score a minimum of 65 points on the program’s points assessment grid
Possess a high school diploma
Possess at least three years of business management experience
Possess at least five years of work experience that relates to their business
Have a minimum net worth of $500,000
Possess $300,000 in liquid assets and be willing to invest this amount in Yukon over two years
Work in a role that falls under NOC 0 or A at the business once operational
