On March 30, 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) informed the public that its staff plans to use video conference interviews and hearings for clients. Video conferencing will also assist to reduce long waiting times for citizenship hearings.
The officials emphasized the cybersecurity aspect of such services. Devices used for video interviews will not have access to any IRCC systems so all personal data will be protected. IRCC staff will send email instructions with all the information about the date and time of the interview or hearing.
